Online Giving Challenge Raises $2.2 Million

An online giving challenge sponsored by Battle Creek, Mich.-based W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) raised more than $2.2 million over 10 days.

Twenty-two nonprofits participated in the foundation's national "Cultures of Giving Challenge," according to a press release posted in The Sacramento Bee. The challenge ran from April 17 to April 26 and provided a dollar-for-dollar match up to the first $20,000 per nonprofit. A total of $1.3 million was raised from 3,421 donations, with WKKF matching that number with a total of $915,000.

WKKF decided to hold The Challenge after the release of its report entitled "Cultures of Giving: Energizing and Expanding Philanthropy by and for Communities of Color." The report showcased the power of identity-based philanthropy, which is a growing movement to get people from that community to engage in philanthropic giving.  A recent report by Blackbaud also indicated that online giving is continuing to grow, increasing for the 12th month in a row.

"The Challenge was a success because it really engaged grassroots participation," said Dr. Alandra Washington, the foundation's deputy director of programs for the education and learning, and family economic security teams. "This will serve as a model for what communities can do to help themselves and their causes in the social media realm."

National Christian Foundation Hits Grant Milestone

The National Christian Foundation (NCF), a grant-making network based in Atlanta, Ga., announced today that it awarded its 3 billionth dollar since the founding in 1982.  The organization announced the news in a press release, and have also released a short video to thank their supporters.  NCF National President David Wills had this to say about the news:

"We’re grateful to be able to offer givers a foundation which helps simplify giving and multiply the impact. This is just the latest milestone in the modern-day Christian generosity movement, and we're excited to play a part in this historic time of giving."
CityTeam Ministries, a Christian nonprofit in San Jose, Calif., was the lucky recipient of the historic grant.  They got it after being recommended for a $300,000 grant by Hugh Maclellan of the Maclellan Foundation in Chattanooga, TN.

This is not the first major news that recently has come out of NCF.  Earlier this year, they announced a nationwide expansion with their 25 affiliates.  They also developed a new brand and updated their website.  Visitors to the site can follow a nationwide giving blog, which gives them the opportunity to connect with givers and other experts from across the country.  Make sure to visit their site to find out more about the organization.

Feature Nonproft Jobs Press Release

Here is a recent press release we put out about The Nonprofit Jobseeker...

The NonProfit Times, the leading publication for nonprofit organizations, wants employers to know about an exciting feature on The NonProfit Job Seeker (the publication's online destination for non-profit jobs) that they can use to highlight new jobs at their organizations: Featured Jobs. Once you apply one of the Featured Job options to one of your open positions, that job will be listed on The NonProfit Job Seeker's main page, and will be highlighted in yellow in the search results. This will guarantee that your job is seen by the the industry’s most sought-after talent: passive job seekers.

Passive job seekers are more highly sought after by companies, because this type of worker represents a larger portion of the workforce (83%, according to a recent survey by Yahoo!). Passives are constantly browsing the web for high quality nonprofit positions; but they aren't going to spend hours browsing through the site, they are going to want to know which jobs are the best to apply to. By using Featured Jobs, your company will have a higher chance of attracting these talented workers.
There are two options for Featured Jobs: a 30-day posting at $100, or a 60-day posting at $130. The only difference between these two options are the length of time and the price, so you will be getting the same great service no matter which length of time you choose.
